August 2 - Kitsilano Beach And Space Centre

Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it.

The Day's Goal

The main goal today is to continue cataloguing the day's events and produce a PDF using pages on their iPad. After, we will start creating a blog post (if we haven't started already). The blog post will, by the end of the trip, be filled with each day's events. The students will learn how to make a blog post using Squarespace (we will use my account). Students can work alone or in a group.

Kitsilano Beach is about 8 km from our house. It is situated on the south coast of English bay and it is between downtown and the University of British Columbia. We can take the subway down to False Creek and then take one of the False Creek Ferries to the Maritime Museum Ferry Dock.

Kitsilano Beach

Kitsilano Beach is a popular beach along the shores of English Bay. There are a great many things to do on or near the beach. There is swimming, hiking, shopping and if we choose to not go to the Space Center, we can play some frisbee games, football or other beach related activities as a group.

H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre is a an observatory and planetarium which helps portray the science of astronomy through shows and events.

Frisbee Ultimate And Frisbee Golf

By this time, we will have learnt how to play frisbee ultimate, frisbee golf, hackey sack and jianzi (毽子). So, we can make a decision as to whether we would like to go to the Space Centre or play some of these games in the park near the beach or near our house.

The only cost today is if we decide to go to the Space Centre. The costs range from 100 RMB for adults to 65 RMB for children.
